What causes hair loss?
In men, the most common cause of hair loss is male pattern baldness (also known as androgenic alopecia) — a genetic condition that can begin as early as the teenage years. Other contributing factors can include hormonal changes and nutrient deficiencies.
One key hormone involved is DHT. While DHT plays an important role in development during youth, elevated levels later in life can lead to issues like hair loss. It does this by shrinking hair follicles and shortening the hair growth cycle over time.
What is DHT?
In the body, testosterone is naturally converted into a hormone called DHT. When DHT levels become too high, it can lead to unwanted effects in men including an enlarged prostate and male pattern hair loss.
How effective is hair loss medication?
90% of men will maintain the hair they have.
